Farewell from The Jack Newton Celebrity Classic till next year

The final night was a little bit country and a little bit rock 'n' roll!

After 3 full days of parties, sun and golf, The Jack Newton Celebrity Classic has come to a close for another year.

At the farewell dinner last night, the awards were handed out after which the winners were all sent straight from the stage to the pool to jump in fully clothed (after checking their pocket for wallets and mobile phones). This is something that has become a tradition over the years.

When the winner of the event, Brendan Smith stood up to collect his trophy and announced that he had just been diagnosed with diabetes, it was a reminder of the underlying reason that such a huge crowd gathers at Cypress Lakes Resort every December.

During the two day golf tournament 60 new cases of diabetes were diagnosed in Australia. A deadly disease reaching epidemic levels in this country and at this stage with no cure. The money raised every year is much needed and put to great use but the Australian Diabetes Council.

In an impromptu moment on stage which could only happen at 'The Jack' ARIA and Golden Guitar Nominees McAlister Kemp were coming to the end of their set and asked Newcastle 3 piece Rubber Bullet to join them on stage, quickly followed by Luke Dickens, Wilbur Wilde and Mark Evans (formerly of AC/DC). The guys started out with Sweet Home Alabama and kept playing till they called last drinks. That's a lot of amazing talent to have on one stage.

The phrase most commonly heard by the end of the night was "Book me in for next year"
